    JEFF GORELL ON THE ISSUES

    ECONOMIC RENEWAL

California used to be America’s “Golden Economy”. Today, our state ranks 2nd to LAST nationally in attracting new businesses. I am running to secure California’s economic future by reducing excessive government regulations and taxes that are driving away businesses and jobs. As your Assemblyman, I will:

Jobs Action Plan -- I have proposed a comprehensive Jobs Action Plan to protect local jobs and attract new businesses to Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Click on the LINK to learn more about my Jobs Action Plan.

Support Our Small Businesses -- Small businesses are California’s #1 job creators! I want to make California more business friendly by reducing the economic burdens on our small businesses and taking advantage of California’s untapped entrepreneurial energy. My ideas are endorsed by state and local chambers of commerce.

Defense and Aerospace -- I will use my background as a Naval Reserve Officer to help organize the local Base Realignment Council to promote the economic benefits of our Navy bases to Ventura County and work to expand local aerospace employment to bring high paying professional jobs to our communities.

    FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

Reckless spending by the politicians in Sacramento has brought California to the edge of bankruptcy. I am running to reform California’s wasteful government and put our state’s financial house in order. As your Assemblyman, I will:

Limit Spending -- Implement a state spending limit that will help to eliminate waste and reduce the bureaucracy in Sacramento. This commitment to smaller and smarter government has earned me the endorsement of Citizens for California Reform and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

Oppose Higher Taxes -- Californians are over-taxed. That’s why I have signed the Americans for Tax Reform “No Taxes Pledge”. Growing our economy—not taxing Californians even more—is the only long term solution to our state’s financial woes.

Keep Local Tax Dollars In Our Local Communities -- I will oppose the State’s raiding of funds from local counties and cities. Local tax dollars should stay in our communities to pay for public safety, schools and parks.

    EDUCATIONAL REFORM

As an Adjunct Professor at California Lutheran University, I believe strongly in the importance of a quality education. I am running to revitalize California’s education system. As your Assemblyman, I will:

Demand Accountability -- Support high academic standards in our classrooms, high standards of professionalism by our teachers and high standards of performance by our schools.

Reduce Bureaucracy -- I will work to cut excessive administrative costs in our school system and require more education funds be spent in classrooms to benefit students.

Expand Career Technical Education and Job Training -- I will support the Architecture Construction and Engineering (ACE) High School in Camarillo and expand job training resources to provide solid employment skills that match the growing job sectors in the future economy.

    COMMON SENSE CONSERVATION

As a resident of one of the most beautiful areas of our state, I am a strong advocate for common sense conservation. I am running for Assembly to:

Protect Our Quality of Life -- I live here because I enjoy the water, beaches, open spaces, trails and the mountains. I want to see these natural wonders protected. Preserving our beaches, rivers, lakes and mountains for future generations means protecting state parks from budget cuts and keeping them accessible to the public by opposing excessive entrance and user fees.

Promote Our Environmental Economy -- I believe that too many politicians try to force a false choice between a strong economy and a clean environment. Here in Ventura County, clean beaches, pristine mountains and quality parks are economic drivers that attract significant revenues to local businesses and our local economy. I want to work with business advocates to attract the next generation of clean/green technologies to this community.

Support Agriculture -- Ventura County’s agricultural economy and rural lifestyle serves as a buffer to high density urban development. As our Assemblyman, I will support our farmers and ranchers with business friendly policies so that they can operate profitably and produce the crops that feed our nation. They are the stewards of our environment and deserve our support.

    SAFE COMMUNITIES

For nearly seven years, I served as a Ventura County Deputy District Attorney working to put violent criminals behind bars. I am running to keep our communities and schools safe. As your Assemblyman, I will:

Stop Early Release of Convicts -- I will fight hard to stop the early release of criminals from our state prisons. Turning these convicts loose will jeopardize public safety and cost taxpayers more in the long term because most of those released will be re-arrested for new crimes.

Reduce Illegal Immigration -- I will work to eliminate the financial incentives that attract illegal immigrants to California and support tougher laws to deport those who are here illegally. My candidacy has been endorsed by state and local law enforcement.
